A few months after a war or a major operation, when all the stories from the battlefield are collected, the IDF publishes a list of soldiers who will receive military decorations for their heroism and bravery. This week the Chief of Staff announced the names of the heroes of operation “Tzuk Eitan”, and two of our Brothers are on this list. Here are their stories:
On July 21, 2014 a patrol team of the Paratroopers Brigade was sent to attack a number of suspicious buildings. When the soldiers arrived and were preparing to get into the houses, the terrorists opened fire from a few points. The team commander and many soldiers were injured in the battle that followed. Sergeant Magury, together with another officer, assisted in evacuating the injured under heavy fire. They both got injured, but kept fighting, covering the medic who were treating the injured in the scene. They did not evacuate themselves until the terrorists were either killed or escaped, and all the injured soldiers were evacuated.
On July 31, 2014 the terrorists opened mortar fire at a military gathering point close to the Gaza border, and many soldiers were injured. Sariel, also injured by shrapnel, saw a fellow soldier severely wounded to his neck, bleeding heavily. Still under heavy mortar fire, Sariel reached the injured and kept applying pressure to stop the bleeding, until both of them were evacuated to the hospital. Sariel’s bravery under fire saved a life.
In addition to our Brothers’ military decorations, our foundation was awarded a certificate of appreciation for assisting the soldiers during the operation. The same values and commitment to excellence we lived by in the army, we acted by during this operation.
With love from Israel,
