Dear friends,
Last week we hosted the largest event in Israel specifically focused honoring injured Israeli combat soldiers and their wives.
The highlight of the event by far was the moment we called up three of the most injured soldiers in the past years to light the Menorah. I have shared before that when we are with them, we all feel humbled in their presence. They and their families are the true heroes of Israel. The rest of us sit quietly in the long shadow of the courage they show every day.
These soldiers as they came to the front of the room with their families, 1,000 people stood and did not stop clapping for them.
What an honor it was for all of us.
At this great evening we showed the first BFL music video written and sung by our members, and entitled “Until That Night”.
The translation is below and the YouTube clip showcases specifically a number of our soldier led sports programs that serve as a vehicle for our members go beyond what they thought were limitations presented by their injures and to mentor each other as well. Please enjoy!

Until that night everything was
incidental fleeting Until that night everything was
You appeared And gave back to me The courage to stir my wings You appeared And I was drawn To forge my path, to choose life. You appeared And reminded me That fear is only conquered together And lifted me To soar with you to the heavens
You appeared, and my heart trembled And you just smiled Like a windstorm you have swept Deep into my heart
You appeared I am no longer alone Even in silence our eyes converse You appeared And gave me hope To stop time, just for a moment You appeared And carried me To a different place, on your back and wings Now strong My voice calls out It’s ok to dream, not live on the sidelines
You appeared, and the world trembled And you just smiled Like drops of hope you have trickled Into my soul Unconditional love
Until that night everything was Incidental, fleeting Until that night everything was Vague You appeared And made the wasteland bloom In a desert thirsty for water’s sweetness. |
Shabbat Shalom from Israel,
